A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure where a chemical solution is applied to the cleansed skin in order to remove the dead and damaged top layers. The skin then grows back smoother, and more even in color and texture. Chemical peels are usually used on the face, to treat wrinkles, pigmentations, and scars. There are peels of different depths: light, medium, deep, with the deeper ones giving more dramatic results but taking longer to heal. Chemical peels are effective alone or can be combined with other cosmetic procedures.
